Jackson Hole: The Lifestyle and Culture of a Wyoming Mountain Town

Jackson Hole is beloved for its small town charm. Its Western hospitality and small population — just 10,700 in the town of Jackson itself (Jackson Hole refers to the whole valley) — are what draw many residents here in the first place.

But Jackson’s size not preclude a vibrant community. Between its expansive dining options, thriving arts scene and impressive amenities, Jackson manages to offer something special to all of its residents. It may not be your traditional urban destination, but living here, it’s hard not to feel like you’re still a part of something bigger.

Prospective home buyers who want the ease of small-town living, but the conveniences and community of a more metropolitan area, will find everything they need in downtown Jackson.

You can’t make it a full block in or around Jackson’s Town Square without passing a world-class restaurant or bar. On the eastern edge, Cafe Genevieve, Persephone Bakery and Healthy Being Juicery all offer breakfast, lunch and coffee options for any taste palate. Many restaurants and bars downtown have rooftop or second-story patio dining, offering 360-degree views of the town and its surrounding landscapes. These include Kampai, which offers sushi just as good (or better) as any you’ll find in Japan or in a coastal city; Roosevelts, named for the former President and conservationist Teddy Roosevelt with long-standing Jackson Hole history; and The Rooftop at The Cloudveil, a local favorite extension of The Bistro atop a four-star hotel overlooking the Town Square.

Jackson also boasts an impressive arts and culture scene. The Center for the Arts regularly books A-list musicians, speakers and theatrical performances. This summer’s lineup includes Dawes, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, and an evening with Fran Lebowitz. The Center also hosts local arts organizations full of big talent, including Dancers’ Workshop, Off Square Theater Company and the Art Association of Jackson Hole

In the summertime, Jackson’s Town Square transforms into a bustling Farmers Market — the first official farmers market in the state — on Saturday mornings. Then, on Wednesday evenings, the Center for the Arts lawn hosts the People’s Market, a celebration of local growers, producers and artists.

Night owls can dance the night away at the infamous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar or the Silver Dollar Bar, both of which frequently host live music.

The beauty of living in downtown Jackson is that all of these offerings, and more, are within walking or biking distance from your front door. If you’re ready for a mountain town life full of community and culture, Keller Williams agents are here to help you find your fit in the Tetons.
