She moved to Jackson Hole in 1994. Once in Jackson Hole, Melissa started as a real estate Sales Associate at Jackson Hole Realty (now Jackson Hole Sotheby’s).
When her sons were young, Melissa took a break from selling real estate and worked a more predictable schedule in non-profit land and wildlife conservation for many years. She worked at the Jackson Hole Land Trust and was then executive director of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation.
